What is a academic drawing? Such drawing means an ideal copy of what is in front of you and also using all rules with horizontal lines (my mistake I didn't show but every drawing of such composition has one). It is also the foundation of fine arts , a systematic knowledge of physics, geometry,so in other words it is life, which froze on the paper. For a reason at the Art Institute to study academic drawings take years .

Game of imitation.
Game of imitation.
There is a state in our selves that I would like to call the unconscious mind. Now many surreal writers ,painters studied their whole lives to understand that state of mind where there clearly is no logical chain of information.Some believe it is a absurd unrelated objects that are connected together, others chain the the unconscious mind is something we do think and maybe there is logic to this. But still this state of mind exists and it is a part of us that we unfortunately do not now.You can compare this to simply anything that we do not have knowledge of.![]() |
This drawing is not surrealism, but hope you would taste a drop of the unconscious mind from it. |
Surreal artists tend to use objects that normally you would not combine together logically ,like a eye and a clock, or a lobster and a telephone, and what their main task is to open the unconscious mind from using these different objects,normally there have meanings and emotions. So in other words it's a game of imitation ,and after watching such painting that do not make any sense you are left with a uncomfortable feeling but some yet it is intriguing . So people try to understand the meaning always but there is no meaning, either the meaning of such paintings and art is to touch that unconscious mind which has no logic itself.

Machiavelli and art
Machiavelli and art.
"Nor do I hold with those who regard it as a presumption if a man of low and humble condition dare to discuss and settle the concerns of princes;
because, just as those who draw landscapes place themselves below in the plain to contemplate the nature of the mountains and of lofty places, and in order to contemplate the plains place themselves upon high mountains, even so to understand the nature of the people it needs to be a prince to understand that of princes it needs to be of the people."
These quotes are from Machiavelli"s book The Prince,well as we know Niccolo Machiavelli was an Italian Renaissance historian, politician, diplomat, philosopher but mostly he is famous from his book.
Art is a form of expression, true art is something deeper then just an illustration or simply more than a picture we see with our eyes. This message is not something all human beings can understand easily. In Machiavelli's quote we can see how easily art is accused for being just and an imitation, something lifeless, without feelings or emotions.Sadly many philosophers and professors agree with Machiavelli and point out the state that art is just an imitation.
At some point I can't agree with such statement, people may be blind that art is something that must have a soul,well it is true art that should be judged that way, Only something drawn with emotions may be called true art,and when you look at a painting there you have to feel the soul of it,feel those emotions.
Machiavelli was a sad poor man in heart who made this book only from his critical situation, so for him to judge about art in such way is very wrong I think. People who are happy and true to themselves may understand true art. The richness,the fantasy a painting may give you.But maybe Machiavelli did understand it, maybe he was only groomed into such political statement that he was suppose to be in to just satisfy other people at that point. So in the end we may never know which is the true meaning of art. All we have to rely is on our own intuition.

Addict
Lovely walking in the night streets....But something can be missing ... That feeling of emptiness you have lust to fill with...Maybe it can be anger or love....Or some kind of strange addict.
These walks you make to try to fill the pores are all the same in end. You fill them with air, but the addict is still there.
